workshop: class 1; communicatin

The series of 4 classes will be entitled:

Bringing Out The Very Best in Parents; Bringing Out The very best in Children.

Class #1.

Communication:

Rephrase:

Instead of:

1. No; Say: Yes, with a qualifier, of when, how, and
what needs to be done first. For example,
Can I have desert? A parent could say; yes
you have eaten a specific amount of food
first. Children are concrete thinkers.
When a child hears the word no; they automa-
tically think that their request isn't going
to occur at all. A yes, with a qualifier:
with a specific time, date etc, of when the
requested event will take place; can prevent
an upset episode from occuring.

2. Asking a child; Say: For example, We are going to be having
dinner in 5 minutes. You will need to be
turning off the T.V., was your hands and
start getting ready for dinner. When a
parent asks a child are you getting ready
for dinner? That is an opened ended
qustion. Children do better with closed
statemnents of giving directives.

Would you like to:
Asking a child to do
somethin gives the child
the idea that he/she has a
choice.

3. Giving a child too many Say: You can wear either your blue
shirt of your yellow shirt.
Providing a child with choices
gives the child some feeling of
control with in a set structure.
Giving a child too many choices
may have the child feeling
confused and overwhelmed with
what to do. Chidren may become
frustrated and irritable with out
the abilty to express themselves.
instructions, with too many
choices, For example, Instead of
saying to your child; It is time to
get dressed now, pick something out of
your closet. Then lets go.

4. A yelling tone of voice use: Use a calm, dirctive, authoritive,
This is how it is, tone of voice.
For example, Bedtime is at 8:30,
You need to pick up your toys and
brush your teeth. Which one do
you want to do first. A set
specific routine with specific
times to it mahy cause a greater
chance of the desired event to
occur. For ex. If a child is
more of a morning person than a
night person then; a specific
event such as homework could be
done in the quietness of the a.m.

5. Body Language language:
such as; finger pointing,
crossed arms, being in too
close of proximity of the
child can cause a child to
fell judged, as being singled
out, as if they did something
wrong, on the dwfensive, and
angry Keep your body language open and
inviting. Have a warm expression on
your face instead of an angry one.
Children pick up on negative energy.
When a parent is calm, and
authoritative a child is more likely
to listen. Negative energy from the
parent may bring out negative
emotions from the child; positive
caring energy may bring out positive
energy from the child. Body language
and tone of voice may b ring out
a desired reponse or a negative
undesired response.

Bring out the very best in your child

Ten great ways to bring out the very best in your child:

1. Ways to reinforce the positve actions of your child; the one's you want to be repeated.

Children love to receive compliments.
Children have an enate way of wanting to please their parents.
Children will seek out either the positive attention of others or the negative.
The key is to catch every action of the child that you want to be repeated; and immediately follow it with a compliment. When a positive action of a child has been acknowleged the incident of the desired action will have a higher tendancy of occurring again.

The actions of the child, that is targeted as one to be omited, or lessened; can have a variety of strategies. The actions that are wanted to have a decrease in occurance, can be ignored, with only the desired ones acknowledged; is one option. When shaping a desired actions, a specific behavior may increase before it decreases, only to the point of the child realizing that the negative behavior isn't getting him/her any attention.

Another option is called a negative reinforcer/or positive reinforcement:

A child may be given a tangible object such as a sticker, smiley face object, or a token etc. A tangible object that the parent chooses.

The child will receive tangible objects for every positive desired action that is targeted to be repeated. When the specific action of the child hasn't been carried out as determined; the child will not receive the tangible object.

The tangible objects can be recorded on a chart. The chart is a visible oject for the child to keep up with his/her progress. The parent will be able to have a visible chart to view as well. The chart can be visited on a daily basis.

The reinforcement system can be set up on a fixed inteval, or an intermittent schedule. The fixed interval reinforcement schedule; consists of the child being reinforced consitently at the same time every day. The same number of times etc. everything will be fixed at exactly the same way each time.

Intermittent reinforcemnt schedule; is based on a reinforcemt may happen at any time. The child does not know when the reforcement will happen. The child will repeat over and over the positive actions towards the desired reinforcemnt.

The fixed intermittent schedule has the advantage; of child having predictability. The child knows exactly what actions to perform to receive a specific tangible reinforcemt item. The intermittent reinforcement schedule; consists of the child repeating a positive action several times.

Compliment the child for every desired action. Compliments, praise, and positive reinforcemts will bring out the very best in your child.

class or workshop ideas

1. Bring out the best in your child.

10 great ways to bring out the best in your child.

1. The advantages to using positive communication:
what words, tone of voice, and body language.

2. What are the strengths of your child. Ways to capitalize on your child's positive attributes.

3. complimenting and focusing on what the child is doing right.

4. emphasize what you want the child to do. For ex. Tell the child to please be quiet, instead of yelling at the child and say stop talking so loudly. You are always so loud. You do not know how to be quiet. After awhile the child will begin to believe that they do not know how to be quiet and that they are always loud. Where, as saying to the child please be quiet or please talk in a lower voice please, gives the message to the child respect and an example of how to politely converse to someone. A child learns from what they hear and see. When they hear yelling ; then the child thinks that yelling is the way to communicate. The child that hears polite respectful words the child will be inclined to repeat the words and actions for which they hear and see.

5. Ways to reinforce the positive actions of your child, the one's you want to be repeated. For ex. a chart, a journal , tangible and untangible items that will motivate your child to be good, or to do a repeat of the desired actions.

brochure ideas

I am brainstorming on some ideas about a business brochure.

I can either use office depot or vista print, or the craig's list for a brochure writer. For some reason, I am feeling a little bit stuck as for as what to include in the brocure. I thought some brainstorming on the ideas of what to put in the brochure might help.

I went to office depot. I found a great design. The design was of a logo of light and hope. I like that concept of bringing light and hope to the life coaching theme for my business. I looked on to vista prints and didn't find a design. The possibility of finding or designig my own design is still possible with vista print. I might use office depot for my business cards. It is easier for me to design my business cards. The brohure has a lot of additional information to include in it. I am not sure what to put in to it.

I would like to use the design from office depot about light and hope. Then an eye catching phrase can be placed on the front. Light and hope can bring a new sense of empowerment. MEZ Life Coaching Services can bring to light a new way of looking at life.

On the inner middle: Parents may come together for a common purpose. Raising a child in this day and age isn't easy. Parents may have questions about how to handle varies situations about their chid as it arises. Children don't come with manuels. Situations about raising a child may be perplexing. A parent may feel as if they are the only one in the universe experiencing the same topics of concern about their child. MEZ Life Coaching Services provides support group coaching to parents who have daily concerns pertaining to their child.

MEZ Life Coaching Services provides support group life coaching to parents who have daily concerns pertaining to their child. The group support services provides a forum for a parent to voice their ideas, opinions, celebrations, enthusium, concerns, brainstorming, and sometimes it just helps to know that there is some one is willing to listen. The feeling of being able to express oneself without being judged, with confidentiality, with support, and knowing that someone really cares about what happens to them.

On the next inner left side of the brochure:

MEZ Life Coaching Servces also provides 1:1 coaching. Individuals who would feel more comfortable talking about life parenting issues on a differant format than speaking around a lot of people. 1:1 Coaching provides a more individualized format of discussing life issues as a parent. The individualized parent will recieve the same support, non-judgemental forum, confidentiality, unconditional acceptance, a forum to discuss thoughts, ideas, concerns, brainstorming on possible ideas to a situation, and to have the fact that someone is listening and cares about you as a person with the 1:1 life coach.

On the back of the brochure, I would like to inclde all of my business contact information.

brochures

I would like to create a brochure for my life coaching business. I have gone over to office depot. I found a cover page entitled light and hope. The cover page that I saw had a light blue hue. Light and hope is an example of protraying my positivity life coachig strategies. The light blue brings about an image of calm and relaxation. I would like to bring a sense of a calm, confident, relaxed positive atmosphere to children and to parents. I would also like to bring a sense of trust, and confidentiality. The front of the brochure will have the light and hope in a blue hue, In the middle or at the bottom, I would like to include MEZ Life coaching Services LLC. I am not sure about putting my name next and then my personal information.
On inside of the brochure I will like to include information about the programs that will be available. Do I want to mention catching a child being good, support groups for children/adults/parents. The educational needs could be addresed. I could mention about the disabities of the children/ support for parents. i will continue at a later time.

grant information

I learned tonight about a web site towards aquiring a grant. The web site is CFDA. The first step involves getting on to the web site, the second step is to click on to CFDA Edition 2000 print edition, the third step is to get on to the catalogue, pages 6-7 lists types of assistance, 11-17 lists the program descriptions, the programs despriptions are on pages 188-1878, place a key word on to the left hand side of the page where it asks for search, binoculars on the left hand side of the page on the pdf form put in keky words, scroll down until you get to page number 188-1878. I tried the key word health care and it wasn't want I wanted. I used the key word support groups. The key word support group is a good word to use. I found page 769 as a good page, I also found page 1491 under the keky words support groups, under disability and health #93.184. I am going to begin to think about more kekkyk words that I can use. Next Wednesday night, we are are going to talk about registering for gov. grants.gov., and to begin the process of applying for a grant. Receiving grant money for a worthy cause of helping others is a great accomplishment. I can do it.

catch your child being good

I would like to write an article on catch a child being good. There are sveral newspapers in the area that I would like to contact. I would also like to collect more material from the library or other books etc., to gather more information.

The newspaper article and the idea of having workshops for parents that are experiencing behavior problems from their children. I would like to be a facilitating factor to help parents with issues that are frustrationg etc.,

The newspaper entitled "catch your child being good" Then at a later time have workshops, and programs developed around this subject.

Catch your child being good would entail providing a child with compliments, a behavior chart to track the child's behavior, provide a reward or an extra privildge, use it as a learning tool, supply meaningful language to children to decrease negative behaviors for the parent to use, and to provide specific skills to enchance a child's performance. A child's behavior can be shaped, reinforced, and specific behaviors will be extinguished. Specific behaviors that are being extingushed can be on the rise before it decreases. The rei nforcement schedule can be immediate, intermittent, continuous, fixed, or on a ratio schedule. Behaviors in children can be developed with setting specific structure with positive and negative reinforcement, or negative consequences. Arguements, disagreements, compliancy can occur in an increasing amount of times.

My next step is to write the article with the knowledge that I have and to research additional material. The material that I research might be able to be used with me practicum class.

That is all for now.

Program ideas for life coach business

I am creating a new business.

The business name is MEZ Life coach CPC LLC. It is incorported.

I have also thought of the business name to be the circle of life coaching. To

be the director of your own life, as the client, myself as the life coach to

be the guide towards an attainment of the individuals goals in life.

I am also working on developing some program ideas pertaining to the

children needs, for the adolescents needs, and to have support groups for the

parents of children. I am developing a program for children from the grades of

6th-12th. The program concentration will involve children with learning

challenges.

I am devising three program areas for the children and adolescents.

1. Educational needs.

Only from the consent of the parents; a program pertaining to goals to

assist with the child's IEP can be developed. The program will be

individualized, with the child being at the center of immportance, the

circle of life. The I.Q. score of the child ranging from 70-100; again

from the consent of the parent. The information about the child's I.Q.

may or may not be necessary. Some assesment information could be from a

disclosure from the parents. The goals and the program will be inaccordance

to the child's, and parents input on the whole process.

2. Social needs:

This program can cover a variety of pertant issues.

This program will be individually based. Goals and how the specific program for

child will be agreed upon with both the child and the parent. The child and

parent are the director of their own life. I, as the life coach will be the

guide towards the fullment of their specific life goals.

Communication skills:

Teamwork:

3. Life skills:

reading a recipee from a cookbook, reading the directions on how to cook a

specific food item from the label, learning how to tell time, money management

cooking skills, shopping skills, reading a menu from a restaurant, and specific

safety skills and precautions to maintain one's own ideal image of self.
